Harmony Borax Works

January 2024

$25.00$1,600.00

To process borax that was extracted from the valley floor near here, in 1883 the Harmony Borax Works was constructed—now in the National Register of Historic Places. This is the origin of the famous Twenty Mule Teams that hauled borax from here to the railhead at Daggett, 165 miles (266 km) away, from 1883 to 1898. My daughter Madison, the “Desert Rose,” played saxophone with her high school marching band at the 2017 New Year’s Day Rose Parade in Pasadena, California; and to my surprise, there was also a wonderful reenactment of the Twenty Mule Team that paraded by. Please note: one can identify Telescope Peak (11,039 ft, 3,365 m) in this scene.
