Hot Summer in the Panamints

This perspective is above 10,000 feet (>3,000 m) on the trail to Telescope Peak (11,039 ft, 3,365 m) in the Panamint Range. At Furnace Creek this day, the high temperature was 129°, with the low 98°. It was one of the 5 times that I did the hike to Telescope Peak—distinguished from the others in that this trip was the only time I slept along the trail. To survive—since I hadn’t cached enough water—I had to harvest snow that I discovered on the right side of this scene, out of view. Crazy! In the foreground there is the purple Panamint Mountain Lupine (Lupinus magnificus), and deep-red Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja augustifolia). The pines just above Jail Canyon are younger Ancient Bristlecone Pines (Pinus longaeva), Nevada’s state tree. In the distant haziness of the monsoon season, one can identify: Wildrose Canyon, the Panamint Playa, Lake Hill, and Hunter Mountain.

Within 10 days of purchaser receiving a delivered composition where defects are identified, photographer Blahnik will accept return delivery and reprinting of the identical composition for the purchaser, with purchaser paying delivery costs back and Dr. Blahnik paying delivery costs of the image to the purchaser.
