Shoreline Butte & a Flowing Amargosa

The Amargosa River is mostly a dry desert stream bed. Its course runs 185 miles (300 km) along a protracted route, beginning in Nevada, as a 6,000 square mile (15,600 sq km) hydrologic drainage region. There’s a lot of Desert Gold (Geraea canescens) in this scene, plus several hiding specimens of the lovely Desert Five-Spot (Eremalche rotundifolia). One sees the horizontal lines across the fascinating and famous Shoreline Butte. During the last ice age Death Valley had a huge freshwater Pleistocene lake called Lake Manly. Shoreline Butte at that time was an island of Lake Manly, thus with shorelines; then over millennia as the lake depth dropped but periodically remained stable, gnawing at the shoreline to carve out where water meets land, horizontal terraces were left to bear witness to what the lake depth was. Pretty cool to ruminate over this phenomenon.

  1. Printed on Epson medium using Epson printers and Epson-authorized inks, using high resolution settings; printers: Epson P5370, Epson ProStylus 7880, Epson SureColor P9570.
  2. All compositions were printed by the photographer himself, Martin J. Blahnik; and all of them were carefully scrutinized by him to be defect-free when released for delivery to the purchaser.
  3. To protect the purchaser’s investment, it is important to consider image lamination soon after delivery.
  4. Prices and image sizes listed on this website are approximate; final prices and image sizes will be mutually agreed upon in email exchanges between the purchaser and the photographer Blahnik.
  5. Dr. Blahnik guarantees to remain fair-minded and timely in addressing any purchaser concerns or questions; email: [email protected].
  6. Within 10 days of purchaser receiving a delivered composition where defects are identified, photographer Blahnik will accept return delivery and reprinting of the identical composition for the purchaser, with purchaser paying delivery costs back and Dr. Blahnik paying delivery costs of the image to the purchaser.
