Artist’s Palette & the Desert Rain

February 2023

$25.00$1,600.00

While I am the “Desert Doc,” my daughter is the “Desert Rose,” my son is the “Desert Dunes Dude,” my ex-wife is the “Desert Oasis,” and there many more—once I had a lovely girlfriend, Weng, whom I dubbed the “Desert Rain.” There is a story—taking the reader into the realm of mythology, if interested in going there—behind the designation, the “Desert Rain”; it is a long story to be told in the second of my three-set autobiography. But in this enchanting scene, that woman is not Weng. In fact, I never saw this woman’s face. She—appearing in this scene—was not planned, not staged, she simply stepped into my view of the Artist’s Palette while I was setting up my camera equipment. Sweetness! And truly very rarely it is for me have people in my Death Valley photography. These Black Mountain badlands are one of the most-visited parts of the park. The colors are the result of an iron oxidation process—e.g., tuff-derived mica is green, manganese leads to purple. Geologically, the land here is the Artist Drive Formation, from the Miocene (23 to 5.3 million years ago), which denote the fourth epoch of the Tertiary Period.
